LOCAL ACCOUNTANT RECEIVES TOP AWARD FROM THE ASCPA
ATHENS/HUNTSVILLE, AL – Local accountant, Scott Smith, CPA, was honored by the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA) for earning the highest score in the state of Alabama on the CPA exam during the April/May test window. The award was presented by Lamar Reeves at a luncheon hosted by the Wheeler Basin chapter of the ASCPA.
Smith is a Manager of Tax and Small Business at local firm CDPA, PC. He joined the firm in 2001 after spending three years as a PeopleSoft ERP and EPM consultant. His practice specializations include accounting and advisory services, tax compliance and planning, succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, management consulting, and manufacturing.
“We are very proud of Scott for having the highest grade in the state for the spring CPA exam,” said Managing Partner David Christopher. “This is an exceptional accomplishment and certainly says a lot about his commitment to our firm and profession, as well as to the expertise he provides when serving our clients.”
When asked about his preparation for the exam, Smith said that he kept working tax season hours after April 15th and used the extra time to study.
“I took the first test on the last Friday in April, then I took a section each of the following Fridays,” said Smith. “I would definitely allow more time if I had to do it over. I should have at least taken advantage of the entire window and stretched the tests to the end of May. But it all worked out pretty well anyway.”
Smith graduated from Athens High School and attended the University of Alabama where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He minored in CIS. As aforementioned, he also received an Executive MBA from the University of Alabama. Smith is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the ASCPA, and Rotary International. He serves on the Board of Directors for Limestone County’s CASA and Limestone County’s Habitat for Humanity. Smith resides in Athens with his wife, Kim.
